Book, CD, DVD & Video List - Our Recommendations

Improve your riding in the comfort of your own home!

Though by no means exhaustive, and no substitute for training, the books listed here will provide extra background information.  At the moment we don't sell books, but a link to Amazon should be here eventually.  Also check the on-line training.

Survival Skills - the CD

Details - e-mail enquiries@cooperbiketraining.org.uk for availability  New: 'L' version now available.

Motorcycle Roadcraft The Police Rider's Handbook, most of our on-road training is based on the contents of this manual.  Incidentally, it now has a redesigned cover, and is the 'police rider's handbook to better motorcycling', although content appears unchanged.
The Highway Code Recently revised.  A 'must' for all riders.
Twist of the Wrist;
Twist of the Wrist 2;
The Soft Science of Motorcycle Racing
All by Keith Code. Full of well thought-out techniques, although can need careful interpretation for road riding. One of our instructors commented of 'Twist of the Wrist': "I wish this book had been available when I was racing."  There's also 'Twist' video, CD & DVD available.
Motorcycling Excellence
(The Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Guide To)
The MSF is based in the USA, this book includes some of their course material, suitable for all riders from novice to high-standard.
Pass Your Advanced Motorcycling Test (IAM) A great improvement on the earlier version.
Pass your Motorcycle Test By the late John Robinson, originally published in 1982, but often updated and still available in the shops.
DSA motorcycle riding
the essential skills
New for 2001, replaces the 'Motorcycling Manual'; despite slightly misleading blurb on the back cover, it's not too bad.  A good investment for a newcomer to riding.
DSA theory test
for motorcyclists
Another from the 'official' range; more than just a Highway Code test book, it also has elements of good roadcraft.  Worthwhile for instructors at all levels.
DSA . . . the rest! Official Motorcycling - CBT, theory and Practical Test, CD-ROM, etc., etc.
DSA . . . "What If?" Hazard perception video and DVD, for both car & bike.
From your local second-hand shop:
Sorry Mate, I Didn't See You! By Tim Monaghan, 1982, to accompany the BBC series.
Streetwise
with Ogri and Malcolm, the Alternative Motorcycle Survival Manual.
Malcolm Newell, 1989.
Motorcycle Roadcraft The old, old pre-1996 version, in a blue cover, worth having to compare with the newer, glossy edition. Some diagrams much clearer than the new edition!

Stop Press!  We have one copies to sell, in good condition, £5 each inc. P&P.  E-mail for further details.

RAC Superdriver,
Discover the joy of driving
Excellent book, by Sir John Whitmore.  Based on 'Inner Game' principles, dealing with improving you, rather than your machine control.
Motorcycling - a beginners manual By Jerry Matthews.  Test etc. information out of date, but otherwise a good book.
For the really keen: Both by Dave Jones, e-mail us for Dave's details
Not The Blue Book "A practitioner's guide"  New edition in 2006, possibly . . .
The Assessment of Advanced Motorcycling "A guide to how well you're doing"  New edition now available
